There is support for patients on air ambulance flights from commercial, military, and volunteer organizations. Flight medics are trained in the specialized field of taking care of patients who are transported in helicopters, aircrafts, and jets.
These personnel are available to the public for both commercial airline escort and private medical flights. On air ambulance flights chartered by Air Ambulance, either a flight medic or a flight nurse is provided to take care of the patients onboard. The chief medical director decides the equipment and type of personnel that are necessary for each flight.
There are a large number of paramedics trained in flight medicine who came from a variety of backgrounds. Some of these include fire fighters, nurses, military personnel, and emergency medical techinicians.
