Licensed Ambulance

When looking for ground medical transportation, there are a number of ways to go about finding a licensed ambulance. If it is an emergency, it is important to dial 911 first. If it is a non-emergency, or you are looking for more ambulance providers, start by asking your local hospital. Call a hospital that is located where you plan to leave from and ask if they can refer you a list of ambulance companies available.

Licensed ambulances can be found by the bulk by contacting your state as well. By contacting your state health department, you can request to have a list of all of the licenses that have been given out for the different levels of medical transportation. The Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) provides the ability for members of the public to request these documents.

Different Services Available In Different States

In some states, stretcher vans are legal and a useful means of transportation. A patient, if eligible and in the right condition, can be transported for the range of a hundred dollars instead of five or six hundred dollars by these means.

Some counties, as well, have licensed only a few companies to do medical transports. These companies, in turn, sometimes choose to only do ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) transports. All patients, regardless of their condition, pay the most expensive rates. Unfortunately, there are not many ways get around this. Either find a stretcher van service or if the patient is being sent to another county, you may be able to have an ambulance service from the receiving county do the transport.
