>Often transportation is needed for patients who need a transplant. If a transplant patient has a pager and needs to travel longer distances in a moment’s notice, a local private service is probably most helpful. Transplant patients, most of the time, do not need medical care en route to the hospital where they will receive surgery. Air ambulance planes are equipped with medical equipment and personnel. Yet this is not necessary for a transplant patient. Keeping a list of local charter companies with small airplanes can be the best thing you can do if you need quick transport. Also, air ambulances, while sometimes less expensive than private air charters, may not be available. The most important thing is to have a number of resources handy. You can find a list of local air charter companies by calling the nearest airport(s) and asking for what services are available in the field.
There are some charity organizations that allow owners of airplanes to donate transportation to those in need. Here is a link to one of them:
Angel Flight – Charity organization providing free transportation to medical treatment.
Patients for specialized transplants are often transported internationally. In that case, if a transplant patient is in need of travel to an international hospital, a private air charter company can help.
